The essence of communities lies in supporting each other by helping out. The impact helping out has on a community is immeasurable as every little helps. However, volunteering has loads of positive impact on the volunteer too. 

Week four of the Great Winter Get Together focuses on understanding loneliness, destigmatising it and facing it. Since the global pandemic, one in four Brits has identified themselves as lonely, and millions have experienced social isolation. It is a feeling many people will have, but by not talking about it little progress is made to overcome it.

We have explored saying thanks and reaching out as ways to bring everyone together this winter with the Great Winter Get Together, and the next theme is showing that you care

The second theme of the Great Winter Get Together this year is ‘Reach Out’. The number of people who identify as being lonely has gone from one in ten to one in four since the UK lockdown. What better way to reconnect and tackle loneliness than by reaching out.

2020 has been a hard and peculiar year, but it has taught us how important it is to show how thankful we are. Thankful to the key workers who we rely on and put themselves on the line. Thankful to our relations, neighbours, friends and the friendly faces we know that bring smiles to our faces when they check in. Showing our thanks is something that we sometimes forget to do. In support of Jo Cox Foundations’ Great Winter Get Together, Together TV has put together some easy ways you can show your thanks this Christmas and spread smiles where you go. 

On May 17th 1975, thirty-three people tragically lost their lives in a bus crash that is often considered Britain’s Worst Road Disaster. The crash occurred at Dibble Bridge when the brakes on a coach carrying mainly elderly passengers failed, sending the coach hurtling over the bridge.

Here at Together TV we recognise the importance that music has on all our lives; it is a great source of comfort and joy for many in these unprecidented times.

Almost one in ten children worldwide are involved in child labour. This figure is shocking and there are fears, due to our current economic crisis, that this figure may be far from declining. The impact of Covid-19 on many people’s livelihoods is huge, and sadly, children are often the first to suffer in these circumstances; the UN predicts that the crisis could push millions of children into child labour, joining the already 152 million children already suffering globally.

At Together TV we recognise the vital importance of acknowledging social issues and ongoing struggles of minority communities. We Stand Together for equality and racial justice,  and are keen to amplify the voices of those that have been historically overlooked or ignored.

As the leading TV channel for social change, over several years we have celebrated Black History month on the channel by broadcasting an extensive range of documentaries on a variety of subjects from stories of immigration to the work of revolutionary young activists.
