Kitchen Sink to Catwalk: Being over 40 and fabulous
If anyone ever tells you that it’s too late for you to do anything in life, then wait until you watch Together's brand new TV show Kitchen Sink to Catwalk. A reality contest with a difference, the programme follows six middle-aged women who have travelled to London to take part in one of the biggest challenges of their lives.
During the course of the series, Karen Seeberg, 45, Christine Reed, 47, Micki Baxter, 53, Sam Hughes, 44, Jazmine Labana, 44, and Angie Drake, 52, compete to win a feature spread in a fashion magazine and a professional modelling contract with Model 1.
Expect fabulous makeovers and many tears shed as they experience the highs and lows of what it takes to be a model in an industry dominated by youth.
Fashion director, Karen Foster, says: “We want to show our readers that they can look beautiful regardless of their age.
The first episode opens with the women practicing their catwalk in front of two casting agents from Models 1. Sam, an ex-radio presenter, dressed in jeans and a jumper is criticised for not wearing an outfit that showed off her figure, she says: “If I knew I would be meeting casting agents, I would have worn some heels, done my hair and put on a bit more makeup."
Fashion designer and creative director, Scott Henshall, acts as the women’s guru, guiding them through the modelling activities as they struggle with their body insecurities.
Micki, a former web administrator, said the underwear photo shoot made her feel exposed. "I felt insecure with all my flabby bits hanging out with everybody looking at me."
Throughout the competition, the women are empowered to challenge the stereotypes of aging, from modelling body support wear in front of the public at Spitalfields Market and learning how to adapt their individual fashion styles to building their confidence and self-esteem.
It's clear the women, who live together during the series, have forged a genuine bond as they congratulate and support one another through the gruelling process.
Kitchen Sink to Catwalk shows that it's never too late to follow your dreams, while embracing and loving your body.
The UK premiere of Kitchen Sink to Catwalk launches this Friday, 9th February at 10pm and every Friday for the next six weeks.
